Memorial Day Flower Basket

What You Need: Strawberry basket, construction paper, scissors, 2 pipe cleaners, real or fake flowers.

How You Make It: Cut strips of construction paper slightly narrower than the spaces in the strawberry basket. Weave paper strips in and out, overlapping at ends to secure. Twist ends of pipe cleaner at top of one side of berry basket. Repeat on opposite side. Fill with real or fake flowers.

Lollipop Flowers

What You Need: lollipop, construction paper, pencil, white glue, scissors, flower templates (or you can draw them yourself).

How You Make It: Use pencil to draw flowers (or trace template provided by www.freepreschoolcrafts.com) on colored construction paper. Cut out. Fold green construction paper in half and draw leaf with edge at fold. Cut out leaf, wrap around lollipop stick and secure with glue. Glue lollipop to flower.

Coffee Filter Butterfly

What You Need: coffee filter, wooden clothespin, tempera paint, paintbrush, two small googly eyes, glue, pipe cleaner, water-soluable markers, spray bottle of water.

How You Make It: Use markers to color on coffee filter. Place newspaper or paper towel underneath colored filter and spray thoroughly with water, causing colors to run together in pretty patterns. While it’s drying, paint clothespin. Once clothespin is dry, glue two googly eyes near top of short end. “Pinch” coffee filter into fan shape and clip securely into clothespin. Wrap half of a pipe cleaner around clothespin for antennae.

Baby Food Jar Candle Holder for Mother’s Day

What You Need: baby food jar, colored tissue paper, scissors, paint brush,white glue, ribbon, votive candle.

How You Make It: Pre-cut 4 or 5 colors of tissue paper (or supervise preschooler with safety scissors) to about 1″ in size. Water down some white glue. Apply glue to baby food jar. Place tissue paper over glue. Paint over tissue paper to secure. Once dry, tie neck of jar with pretty ribbon and insert votive candle for Mom.

“We tried it” tip: Paint the glue over the tissue paper gently, or the paper may tear. If it tears, just peel it off or go with the wrinkled look!

Mother’s Day Dried Flower Necklace

What You Need: scissors, 1/8″ hole punch, laminating or “Contact” paper, ball chain, small flower, time (a day or two to dry the flower).

How You Make It: Pick some tiny flowers and dry them between paper towels in a heavy book for a day or two. Lay one piece of Contact paper sticky-side up on a flat surface. Gently place flower onto Contact paper. Cover with another, similarly sized piece of Contact paper. Press to remove air bubbles. Trim to shape of flower, leaving at least half an inch space around the flower. Punch hole near top. Thread ball chain through hole.
